Key takeaways

  • Only a few vendors publish EDR prices. CrowdStrike Falcon Enterprise lists $184.99 per device per year, SentinelOne Singularity Complete $179.99 per endpoint per year, and Huntress Managed EDR $8.99 per endpoint per month (MSRP).
  • Microsoft Defender for Business is the cheapest entry point at $3 per user per month, covering up to five devices per user, and it includes EDR with automatic attack disruption.
  • Small teams without a security analyst should look hard at managed options such as Huntress, CrowdStrike Falcon Complete, ThreatDown and ESET's MDR service, because EDR alerts still need a human to act on them.
  • Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR, Trend Vision One (now branded TrendAI) and Bitdefender GravityZone are quote-based platforms aimed at larger security teams.
  • Free trials are common: CrowdStrike offers 15 days with no credit card, and Microsoft offers one month on Defender for Business.

CrowdStrike Falcon website

CrowdStrike is the name most security teams benchmark against. Its pricing page lists Falcon Go at $59.99, Falcon Pro at $99.99 and Falcon Enterprise at $184.99 per device per year. Enterprise is the tier that clearly describes continuous endpoint visibility, automatic prioritization and threat hunting, so treat it as the real EDR starting point. Falcon Go purchases are limited to 100 devices.

There is a 15-day free trial with no credit card, covering Windows, macOS and Linux. For teams that do not want to run alerts themselves, Falcon Complete adds a 24/7 managed service and a breach prevention warranty, priced through sales.

The honest catch is the July 19, 2024 incident, when a faulty Falcon content update crashed millions of Windows machines worldwide. CrowdStrike changed its update processes afterwards, but it is fair to ask any EDR vendor how they stage and test updates before you sign.

Why it made the list
  • Public per-device prices
  • Falcon Enterprise includes EDR and threat hunting
  • Falcon Complete adds 24/7 managed detection and response
Keep in mind
  • EDR is clearly included only from Falcon Enterprise ($184.99)
  • A faulty update caused a major Windows outage in July 2024

Microsoft Defender for Business and Defender for Endpoint

Great for: Microsoft 365 organizations

Microsoft Defender for Business and Defender for Endpoint website

For small and mid-size companies already paying for Microsoft 365, Defender for Business is the easiest value on this list. Microsoft lists it at $3 per user per month, billed yearly, for up to 300 users, with each user covering up to five devices. It includes EDR with automatic attack disruption and automated investigation and response.

Larger organizations use Microsoft Defender for Endpoint inside the wider Defender suite. The Defender for Endpoint page lists Microsoft Defender Suite at $12 per user per month, which requires Microsoft 365 E3 or Office 365 E3 plus EMS E3.

The weak spot is complexity. Licensing tiers, add-ons and portals can confuse a small IT team, and servers are not included in Defender for Business by default. The one-month trial requires a credit card and turns into a paid plan unless you cancel.

Why it made the list
  • Very low price
  • EDR with automatic attack disruption
  • Covers up to five Windows, macOS, iOS and Android devices per user
Keep in mind
  • Servers need a separate add-on
  • Enterprise features and licensing get complicated

SentinelOne Singularity

Great for: Teams that want strong automation and rollback

Open sentinelone.com
Pricing starts at$179.99 per endpoint per year

SentinelOne Singularity website
sentinelone.com homepage

SentinelOne is CrowdStrike's closest rival in many enterprise deals. Its pricing page lists Singularity Complete at $179.99 per endpoint per year with real-time detection and response, cloud workload protection, 14 days of data retention and an AI security assistant.

Singularity Commercial costs $229.99 and adds identity detection and response, 90-day retention and managed threat hunting. Enterprise adds an agentic AI analyst for automated triage and deeper forensics, priced through sales.

Note the fine print: listed prices are in US dollars for 5 to 100 workstations, and partner pricing can differ. The page offers demos rather than a self-serve trial.

Why it made the list
  • Published per-endpoint pricing
  • Real-time detection and response with an AI assistant
  • Commercial tier adds identity protection and managed threat hunting
Keep in mind
  • Published prices apply to 5 to 100 workstations only
  • No free trial listed

Cortex XDR is built for security operations teams that want endpoint data alongside network, cloud and identity signals. Palo Alto's page highlights behavioral analytics, root cause and execution path analysis, an AI assistant for investigations and customizable detection rules.

The page cites third-party results, including an AV-Comparatives EDR detection certification and a Leader placement in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for endpoint protection platforms. Those are vendor-reported, but they match its long-standing reputation with large enterprises.

It is not a small-business product. There is no public price or self-serve trial, and you get the most out of it if your firewalls and other tools are already from Palo Alto Networks.

Why it made the list
  • Correlates endpoint, network, cloud, identity and email data
  • Root cause analysis
  • Custom detection rules and a REST API
Keep in mind
  • Quote-only pricing
  • Best value if you already own Palo Alto products

Sophos Endpoint and EDR

Great for: SMBs that want strong ransomware protection

Sophos Endpoint and EDR app screenshots

Sophos sells three steps: Sophos Endpoint for prevention, Sophos EDR for threat hunting, investigation and response, and Sophos XDR to extend that across your wider IT estate with an AI assistant. That makes it easy to start small and grow.

Its best-known feature is CryptoGuard. Sophos says it watches for malicious encryption, blocks the process and automatically restores encrypted files to their original state, even when the attack comes from another compromised device on the network. Master boot record protection is included as well.

The downside is buying. Pricing is not listed, so you will go through a partner or AWS Marketplace, and a free trial is offered without a stated length.

Why it made the list
  • CryptoGuard can roll back files encrypted by ransomware
  • Clear Endpoint, EDR and XDR tiers
  • Available through partners and AWS Marketplace
Keep in mind
  • No public prices
  • Advanced hunting needs the EDR or XDR tier

Trend Vision One (TrendAI)

Trend Vision One (TrendAI) website
trendaisecurity.com homepage

Trend Micro's security platform now appears under the TrendAI name, with the platform called TrendAI Vision One. The page groups security operations (XDR, agentic SIEM and SOAR) with endpoint, cloud and network security in one console.

Its licensing model is a selling point for big teams. TrendAI Flex uses credits that can be spent across more than 30 solutions, so you can move budget between tools without new contracts.

On the flip side, the page does not use the term EDR directly or list prices, and the rebrand means older reviews and documents may use Trend Micro product names. Use the free trial to confirm the endpoint features you need.

Why it made the list
  • XDR, agentic SIEM and SOAR in one platform
  • Credit-based licensing across 30+ solutions
  • Free trial available
Keep in mind
  • The new TrendAI branding can confuse buyers
  • No public prices

Bitdefender GravityZone

Open bitdefender.com

Bitdefender GravityZone website
bitdefender.com homepage

Bitdefender is famous for antivirus detection, and GravityZone is its business platform. Bitdefender describes GravityZone Platform as built for mid-market organizations of 500 to 5,000 users, combining endpoint protection, EDR, XDR and MDR in one console.

Managed service providers get their own edition, with a "Secure" tier that includes EPP and EDR. That makes it a common choice for IT providers who manage many small clients.

The catch is clarity for small buyers. The GravityZone Business Security page for small companies does not state that it includes EDR, and no prices are shown, so confirm the tier during the trial.

Why it made the list
  • One console for endpoint protection, EDR, XDR and MDR
  • Separate MSP edition with an EDR tier
  • Free trials offered
Keep in mind
  • No public prices on the business pages
  • Small-business plan does not clearly state EDR
ESET PROTECT logo

ESET PROTECT

Great for: Small and mid-size businesses wanting light agents

ESET PROTECT website
eset.com homepage

ESET has a long reputation for lightweight, low-impact security, which matters on older office PCs. Its business site lists Extended Detection and Response as a module and promotes a 24/7 Managed Detection and Response service run by ESET's own experts.

For small and mid-size businesses, ESET sells ready-made subscription plans billed yearly, with device counts starting at five. Larger companies get tailored solutions.

The weakness is that the US plan page, which now shows Core and Premium plans, does not always say which plan includes full EDR. Use the free trial, which needs no credit card, and ask sales to confirm the XDR features before buying.

Why it made the list
  • Extended detection and response module
  • 24/7 MDR service run by ESET
  • Free trial with no credit card
Keep in mind
  • Plan page shows no clear prices
  • EDR features are not spelled out on every plan
Huntress Managed EDR logo

Huntress Managed EDR

Great for: Small businesses and MSPs that need 24/7 human response

Open huntress.com
Pricing starts at$8.99 per endpoint per month (MSRP)
Free tierFree trial
Huntress Managed EDR website
huntress.com homepage

Huntress solves the biggest problem with EDR for small companies: someone has to watch the alerts. Its Managed EDR lists an MSRP of $8.99 per endpoint per month and includes 24/7 threat detection and response from Huntress' own SOC, remediation and reporting, with volume discounts available.

It is channel-first. If you buy through an MSP, there is no Huntress minimum and the MSP handles deployment. Buying direct or through a reseller requires 50 seats per product, and you manage the portal yourself.

The free trial is the same fully featured product, including SOC support. The trade-off is that it is designed for small and mid-size customers, so a large enterprise with its own SOC may prefer a platform it controls fully.

Why it made the list
  • 24/7 security operations center included in the price
  • Managed antivirus and active remediation
  • Fully featured free trial
Keep in mind
  • 50-seat minimum when buying direct or through a reseller
  • Built mainly to be sold through MSPs

ThreatDown (Malwarebytes)

Great for: Small IT teams that want simple EDR

ThreatDown (Malwarebytes) app screenshots

ThreatDown is the business security line that grew out of Malwarebytes. Every bundle (Core, Advanced, Elite and Ultimate MDR Plus) lists endpoint detection and response, with features like ransomware rollback, endpoint isolation, a cloud sandbox and a flight recorder for investigations.

It is aimed at businesses and nonprofits with very small IT teams, plus MSPs who use the OneView console to manage multiple clients.

The weak point is transparency. When we checked, the pricing page showed empty price fields and only offered a 20% saving on three-year terms, so you will need a quote or demo.

Why it made the list
  • EDR in every bundle from Core upward
  • Ransomware rollback and endpoint isolation
  • Nebula console for single companies and OneView for MSPs
Keep in mind
  • Prices are not shown on the pricing page
  • No free trial mentioned

How we picked these

We compared each vendor's official product pages, pricing pages and trial terms in October 2026. Where prices are public, we quote them exactly as listed; where they are not, we say "See website". We did not run malware tests ourselves, so we also note third-party test results only when the vendor cites them and say so.

We chose platforms that are actively sold today with real EDR features: behavioral detection, investigation tools and response actions such as isolation or rollback. We mixed enterprise leaders with managed and SMB-friendly options.

How to choose an EDR platform

Be honest about who will respond to alerts

EDR creates alerts that need someone to triage them, often at 3 a.m. If you do not have a security team, a managed service such as Huntress, Falcon Complete, ThreatDown's MDR bundle or ESET MDR may be worth more than extra features.

Check what each tier really includes

Many vendors use the word EDR across all tiers but keep threat hunting, long data retention or identity protection for higher plans. Compare data retention days, response actions and supported operating systems, including Linux servers and Macs.

Factor in your existing stack

If you live in Microsoft 365, Defender for Business is hard to beat on price. If you already run Palo Alto firewalls or Trend products, their platforms will connect more easily. Integration with your SIEM and ticketing tools also saves time.

Run a real trial

Install the agent on a mix of real devices, watch performance and run safe test detections. Also ask how the vendor tests and stages updates.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best EDR software for small businesses?

For most small businesses, Microsoft Defender for Business ($3 per user per month) or Huntress Managed EDR ($8.99 per endpoint per month MSRP, with a 24/7 SOC) are the most practical choices. ThreatDown and ESET are also good fits for small IT teams.

What is the difference between EDR and antivirus?

Traditional antivirus mainly blocks known malicious files. EDR also records activity on each device, detects suspicious behavior, and gives you tools to investigate and respond, such as isolating a laptop or rolling back ransomware damage. Most modern platforms bundle both.

What is the difference between EDR and XDR?

EDR focuses on endpoints such as laptops and servers. XDR adds data from other sources like network, cloud, email and identity tools and correlates it into a single view. Cortex XDR, Trend Vision One and Sophos XDR are examples.

What is the best endpoint protection software for enterprises?

Large enterprises most often shortlist CrowdStrike Falcon, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, SentinelOne Singularity and Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR. The right one depends on your existing tools, operating systems and whether you want a managed service.

How much does EDR cost?

Public list prices range from $3 per user per month for Microsoft Defender for Business to $184.99 per device per year for CrowdStrike Falcon Enterprise and $229.99 per endpoint per year for SentinelOne Singularity Commercial. Many vendors only give quotes, and volume discounts are common.

Is corporate antivirus enough on its own?

For very small offices it can be a start, but ransomware groups often use stolen logins and legitimate tools that antivirus alone may not flag. EDR with someone watching the alerts gives much better odds of catching an attack early.
